About Hollywood Beach
Hollywood Beach stretches just over a mile along the Oxnard shoreline, from the beginning of Channel Islands Boulevard at the north to the entrance of Channel Islands Harbor at the south. The beach sits on the north side of the harbor mouth, opposite Silver Strand Beach on the south side. Houses along Ocean Drive line the residential shoreline, and a small free county parking lot operates at the south end at the harbor north jetty. At the south end, a small protected bay area sits inside the jetty footprint where the breakwater and an offshore reef provide partial shelter. Hollywood Beach is a productive surf-fishing destination, with surfperch reported regularly.
The sand bottom and breaking surf along the open beach is a surf zone biome.
Surf fishing is the dominant water activity, and Hollywood Beach is a well-known surf-fishing beach. The year-round beach break draws surfers with a lower crowd count than other Oxnard breaks, and summer swimming is common when the water settles. With no rocky structure or kelp along the open beach, snorkeling and scuba are uncommon, and the sand bottom keeps spearfishing uncommon even though it is legal.
Free street parking is available on Ocean Drive and the residential streets between Channel Islands Boulevard and the harbor. The small free county lot at the south end at the harbor north jetty has restrooms. Fishing and spearfishing are legal on the open beach under standard California regulations. The harbor entrance and the south jetty are subject to harbor district rules; spearfishing inside the harbor footprint is prohibited under California Code of Regulations Title 14 § 28.65 and harbor district regulations.

Surf Zone
The surf zone biome consists of sandy beaches and breaking waves. The action of surf disturbing the sand and kicking it up exposes marine invertebrates, buried in their shallow dens. This natural exposure of invertebrates attracts all kinds of fish, looking for an easy meal. Learn more about this biome and the species found in it by clicking the link below.
